Walking in the Light of God: Walking as a Community of Wholeness

During the season of Epiphany, the church celebrates walking in the light of God revealed in Christ. The Seventh Sunday after Epiphany, we remember that Jesus calls us to a righteousness that exceeds that of the Scribes and the Pharisees. This righteousness is ultimately fulfilled in Jesus’ call to be perfect as God is perfect.

The Greek word translated as “perfect” actually means complete or whole. Jesus utters the same from the cross, “It is finished,” or, “Mission accomplished!” Our mission is to be the temple of God, to be the presence of God in the world, to let the light of Christ shine in us and through us, to be complete and whole as is our Heavenly Father. We walk in the light of Christ; we walk together as a community of wholeness.
