“D-well-ing” in the Word

On Sunday, March 23, the people of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Karnes City experienced the practice of Dwelling in the Word. The story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4) was read twice, each time by a different reader. After the first reading, people were asked to listen for a word, phrase or idea that grabbed their attention. After the second reading, people were asked to reflect on why that word, phrase or idea stood out for them. A time for sharing followed. Links to the previous week’s encounter with Nicodemus at night, as well as Baptism, Jesus knowing us as we are even in our frailty and failings and accepting us and calling us in grace, and to being sent forth as witnesses to what Christ has done for us, were all discussed. Dwelling in the Word is a useful tool for individual or group reading of Scripture.
